Lacquerware

Some very skilled Vietnamese craftspeople produce this stunning lacquerware. Strips of bamboo are coiled, using natural lacquer, to form the base shape. Then, to achieve the glorious glossy finish, the bowls go through 17 stages of applying layers of lacquer and hand buffing. Metal leaf is applied at the embellishment stage, and that is then protected by even more layers of clear lacquer. It takes months, but check out the finished results!
